Brutalism
The book “How to read buildings – A crash course in architecture” has a single entry for buildings that come under the category of BRUTALIST. What a name. The simple illustration in the book reminded me of the space age buildings I liked the look of when I was really young. Its really ironic that these buildings were cutting edge designs of there time. So cutting in fact that people weren’t ready for them. Generally were still not ready for them. Eyesores of architecture! I think that they have a beauty of there own. I think that you have to have an appreciation for the effort and the design to live inside a Brutalist building. Maybe this says something about society? Maybe the buildings are just plain terrible!
These pages are my observations about Brutalism so far which I will refer to when I model a Brutalist building. My copy of Bachelards The Poetics Of Space arrived from Amazon today. I’m going to start reading it in the next day or two.
